Planned obsolescence is the deplorable practice of selling you something that they know will break or become unusable in some way so that you have to buy another one later. Most major companies have practiced this as a part of their core business model for decades and they are destroying the world in the process. This must stop.
Nike plans for shoes to break down once a year.
Apple deliberately welds batteries to their devices forcing you to throw them away.
Microsoft and Intel have long planned to release operating systems that do not run on old hardware forcing people to buy new computers.
Thankfully the world is waking up to this level of shameful behavior.
💎 You can fight this trend by reusing old hardware and putting Linux on it. It is often as if you have breathed new life into something that never actually died — but that Microsoft wants you to think has died. Nothing feel better than taking back ownership of the things you actually spent your money for — particularly when it hits these companies where it counts — right in the profits.
